The New-ish W(e)blinks

@11:44

First off, I'd like to apologize for the downtime. It's been quite a crazy new year for me, having lots of projects on the go at the same time. I've been spending my free time (what little of it I have nowadays) completely rebuilding this site from scratch.

It doesn't look very different to me!

That would be because the stylesheet hasn't changed. It's still using the Flux style. However, everything underneath the site has changed completely. The database structure has been redone, along with all of the PHP. I've also ironed out most of the bugs with the Flux style. I've also added some new features to the site, like the ability to have a user account which makes leaving comments faster. There's also automagical translation, just add "-fr", "-de", "-es", "-it", or "-pt" to the end of the URL and the page will be translated into the appropriate language. Groovy. Although knowing online translation tools.. I doubt it'll make sense.

Huh?.. So we've gotta login to use the site now?

Not at all. Links and notes won't require a login. You also now have access to my photo album. However, if you do get an account you'll be able to add comments to things a lot more quickly, as your comments won't be moderated before they're posted and you won't have to keep entering your details. Also, if I know who you are, I will mark your account as a "friend" and you'll be able to see all of my notes and photos that are just for friends to see.

Are you ever going to change how the site looks?

Up until about a year ago, the site changed it's layout pretty much every few months. However, I quite like the current style, which is why it's still the default. I am currently working on a new style for the site called "Strike", but I don't expect it to be completed for a long time as I'm in the final year of my degree, and so I need to focus all of my attention on that.

I don't like it! You suck! Why don't you include (insert random thing) on your site?

Well, that's fair enough. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. If you've got any suggestions for the site, feel free to contact me. I welcome constructive criticism.

What's happened to some of the old content?

A lot of the content on the old site was very outdated and of no use anymore, which is why it is no longer here. I've been through all of the links and removed any that are bad. You'll also notice that there is no longer a "blog" section. I never updated it very much as I use my livejournal blog for that. So now there's a new section called "notes" which will be where I post about things to do with my course, my projects and random coding things. Plus whatever else I feel like posting.

What's next?

I'm going to be focusing all of my attention on my masters project for the next few months. However, I will be updating the site (for once) so there's probably going to be a few new features added here an there. Unfortunately I haven't finished coding the AJAX stuff yet, so you'll have to cope without all that AJAX goodness for now. I also imagine that there will be a few bugs I've missed, so no doubt I'll be fixing those too.
